Killed in action on the 27th December 1917 aged 22. He had been a Farm worker before the War. Buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery. His father received a letter from the CO describing John as a "good and gallant soldier whose burial is to be in a British cemetery
in the battlefield where he so nobly died."

18th - Moved into line in relief of 5th DLI. Took over same sector as on 10th inst. Remained here to 21st. On 20th 1 OR

21st - Relieved by 1st Cameronians of 19th Bde, 33rd Div. Moved back to cellars Ypres. 3 ORs killed.
