On the 27th October 1915 63 men of the Bn attended a review by the King at Bailleul.

21st OCTOBER. Only casualty was one man injured by a bullet flying out of the fire and landing on his foot.
22nd OCTOBER. Our Artillery practised as usual in the afternoon on Wez Maquart village.
25th OCTOBER. 7 men were admitted to Hospital. The Bn Diary reports a few men going in and out of Hospital
each week.
26th OCTOBER. After a relatively quiet period in the Trenches the Bn was relieved by the 4th East Yorks.
27th OCTOBER. Lts Welsh, Constantine and Hutchinson and 60 men [15 chosen from each Coy] were taken to Bailleul
by motor, where they took part in a review by His Majesty, the King.
28th OCTOBER.
The Bn relieved the 5th Yorks in trenches 71, 72 and 73 and found the outside dugouts swimming in water.
4 platoons of the 12th West Yorks, who were attached to the Bn lost their way for 2 hours, but eventually turned up.
3713 Pte O'Connor Patrick. Home at Gateshead Durham. Born at Sherburn Hill and
enlisted at Houghton Le Spring, Co Durham. Killed in action. Commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.

Place and exact date is not known. the only person identified is Fred Appleton from Skelton in Cleveland, front row,
second from right. He survived the War.

29th OCTOBER.
3397 Pte Catterick James. Home at - Danby Wiske, Northallerton, N Yorks and enlisted
Northallerton. He was in "X" Company and was killed by a "Whiz-bang" at 2 p.m. Age 22.
Buried at Chapelle D'Armentieres Military Cemetery.
3437 Pte Wheatley Ray. Home at 122 High St, Brotton, N Yorks. Died of wounds.
Age 18. Buried at Bailleul Communal [Hospital] Cemetery Extension Nord.
30th OCTOBER. Peaceful warm day and the wind dried things up in the morning.
Trench strength was 22 Officers, 647 other ranks. Fighting strength was 28 Officers and 772 other ranks.
31st OCTOBER.
2653 Pte Gott William, Read. Home at Marske, Cleveland Yorks. Enlisted at Skelton in
Cleveland, N Yorks. Died of wounds at the Field Ambulance. Buried at Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery Armentieres.
Another man of "Z" Company, Pte Thompson was also wounded.
1st NOVEMBER.
2511 L/Cpl Glass John Gordon Home at Darlington Co Durham. Enlisted at Northallerton,
N Yorks. Killed in action. Age 22. Buried at Chapelle D'Armentieres New Military Cemetery.
It rained nearly all day. 3 men of Y Company were admitted to Hospital.
Back in the UK the 2/4th [Training] Btn was disbanded.
2nd NOVEMBER. Rained all day. The CO of the Bn took over the duties of Brigadier during the absence on leave of
Brig General Bush.

8 men went on a Divisional Grenade School Course of Instruction.
3rd NOVEMBER. Diary - "It rained all morning, but cleared up about noon and we had a fine evening to march out
to our Rests Billets in Armentieres.
We were glad to get away from the mud and water in the Trenches.
