7th OCTOBER.
1163 L/Cpl Pattison John, Ralph. Born and enlisted at Catterick N Yorks. Died of wounds. Age 21. Buried at Bailleul Communal [Hospital] Cemetery Extension.
A draft of 115 NCOs and men were received from England.

8th OCTOBER.
5 men went on a bombing course at the Asylum and 2nd Lt Dawson proceeded on a Machine Gun course.

9th OCTOBER.

1407 L/Cpl Long William. Home at 18 Gladstone St, Carlin How, N Yorks. Born Redcar and enlisted at Skelton in Cleveland, N Yorks. Died of wounds. Age 30. Buried at Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres.
Before the War he was a boiler attendant at the Coke Ovens Plant at Skinningrove Ironworks.
His wife put the following notice in the local paper-
LONG - Lance Corporal William Long, aged 30, of
the 4th Yorks, died of wounds on the 9th of October,
buried in the Erquinghem-road Soldiers' Cemetery,
Armentieres, France. Dearly beloved husband of Lily
Long, of 18 Gladstone Street, Carlin How. Deeply
mourned by his wife and family
Though buried in a distant grave,
His memory still we keep.
Bailleul Community Cemetery Extension.
Situated about 15k South West of Ypres, Bailleul was used as a base hospital.
14 men of the 4th Yorks Bn are buried here.

3 Men were wounded.

19 men were sent on a Machine Gun Course.
7 men who had been wounded returned from England.

Lt Girling went for instruction on Trench Mortars.
Fighting strength was 26 Officers and 777 other ranks.
10th OCTOBER.

2871 Pte Hawkins John, Frederick. Home at - The Cottage, Easington, Loftus, N Yorks. Enlisted at Northallerton, N Yorks. Died of wounds. Age 25. Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres.
12th OCTOBER.
The Bn relieved the 5th Yorks Bn in trenches 69 and 70.

14th OCTOBER.

Chapelle D'Armentieres Old Cemetery.
Situated just outside the village, it was used until October 1915, after which a New Cemetery was made just behind and used for a further 3 months. Altogether 9 men of the Bn are buried in the Cemeteries.

3600 Pte White Joseph. Home at S Bank, Middlesbrough, N Yorks. Enlisted at Northallerton, N Yorks. Killed in action. Buried at Chapelle D'Armentieres New Military Cemetery.
2 NCO's went on a Course of wiring with the Royal Engineers.

15th OCTOBER. 3 Other ranks were wounded.
Sergeant Major Denman was granted a commission and Company Sgt Major Myers appointed Acting Sergeant Major. Officers and NCOs of 2 platoons from the 10th Yorks Bn were attached for 24 hours of instruction.

17th OCTOBER.

1744 Pte Curtis Joseph. Born Folkestone. Enlisted at Middlesbrough, N Yorks. Killed in action. Age 21. Buried at Chapelle D'Armentieres New Military Cemetery.
LCpl Peacock was wounded.

LCpl Newton and 5 other ranks went to the Divisional Grenade School for a Course on Bomb Throwing.
18th OCTOBER. The Bn was relieved by the 4th East Yorks Bn in the trenches and went back to their billets in Armentieres.

The Bn Diary reports - A cold wind blew away all the fog in the morning and we had some welcome sunshine after five days of foggy weather. We fortunately had no casualties during the day and the enemy were very quiet. Next day the Bn had baths in the Asylum.

20th OCTOBER. In the morning Machine Gun Officer, Lt D McLaren was shot through the head and was taken to the Hospital at Bailleul.

In the evening the Bn relieved the 5th Yorks Bn in trenches 67 and 68.
